Background

Awada College of Business and Economics is a premier institution under Hawassa University, committed to academic excellence, innovative research, and community engagement. Established in 1992 E.C. as part of the Faculty of Social Sciences under the former Debub University, it later evolved into an autonomous college, offering specialised programs in business and economics. Today, the college stands as a key contributor to Ethiopia’s socio-economic development, producing skilled professionals and advancing knowledge through research and technology transfer. 

Academic Programs & Student Profile 

The college offers a diverse range of programs, including: 

  • Undergraduate: 9 programs
  • Postgraduate: 9 Master’s and 2 PhD programs. 

Currently, it enrolls 4,355 students (3,271 male, 1084 female), fostering a dynamic learning environment. 

Faculty & Staff 

With 151 academic staff (including 4 international experts and 29 female instructors), and 691 (365, Male and 326, Female) Administrative Staffs the college emphasise quality education and research. It actively collaborates with industries, government agencies, and global partners to address real-world challenges and drive innovation.

Aligned with Ethiopia’s higher education reforms, Awada College is transitioning into a research-oriented institution under Hawassa University’s 2020 differentiation mandate. Key focus areas include:
